plugins should default to a target, not media element

or media element if it is appropriate. should be some way for template authours to set default or restrict targets

    Actually, it'd be nice to do this on a per-plugin basis.

    Obviously, it makes sense for subtitles to point at the media element by default.

    This sounds like something that might need some work done on the plugin manifests.

    I think there's a discussion somewhere about plugin manifests... not sure where though.

    I think this is already done though. Probably no need to advance this ticket. Feel free to close.

    We can rely on editor developers to specifically choose the media element if they prefer it.

    I think this is half done actually. Currently we default to a target instead of a media inside the editor, but prior to opening an editor each trackEvent has no target associated with it. This is sort of ugly for the ui cue stuff in that you have to open up a dialog then close it just to set a target. I think we should do exactly what we are doing inside the editor but on first drop as well for each trackEvent.
